Program Accountant-YouthBuild San Antonio

Description of Services:
The Program Accountant is responsible for and must exercise discretion and independent judgement on all financial activities and matters of YouthBuild. The project services of the Program Accountant will ensure YouthBuild San Antonio adhere to federal rules. This project aids the agency in determining fiscal matters for both federal and non-federal funding. Under the direction of the Executive Director, this project will provide bookkeeping and program accounting services to make sure financial reports are timely and accurate. This position will manage YouthBuild program budget to monthly monitoring through closeout.
Project Responsibilities:
• Conducts financial analysis and forecasting of revenues and expenditures.
• Analyzes past and present financial operations, trends, and costs and estimates future revenues and expenditures for the preparation of budgets.
• Performs budget revisions, as necessary.
• Responsible for recording funds received for YouthBuild
• Works with Program Director on a monthly basis to make sure financial information is timely and accurate.
• Monitors monthly grant budgets to inform the appropriate parties of spending and develop strategies for resolutions.
• Maintain calendar of all due dates for financial reporting requirements for the agency and grants and ensure that all reports are submitted accurately by due dates.
• Comply of federal, state, and local grants to include Department of Labor
• Prepare materials for and participate in monitor visits or desk review by DOL
• Prepare and submit expense drawdowns and complete drawdowns.
• Prepare and submit journal entries for to encumber or allocate expenses and to re-class revenue or expenses.
• Meeting with Program Directors monthly to review budget vs. actual reports for programs, projects, and grants.
• Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
• Other services as negotiated and assigned by Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business-related field.
Experience
• Preferred 3 years’ experience in accounting with at least 1 year of experience in nonprofit and/or multi-entity or project accounting experience is preferred. Experience in federal grant funding, coding, drawdowns, etc.
License and Credentials
• Reliable transportation
• Valid driver license
• Valid vehicle insurance
Minimum Knowledge and Skills:
• Preferred 3 years’ experience in accounting including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, revenue and expense coding, and balance sheet accounts.
• Experience with computer software (i.e., QuickBooks);
• A solid grasp of cost allocations and project accounting.
• Experience with Federal grants
• Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently
• Must have good written and verbal skills.
• Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
